We are seeking a highly motivated and bi-cultural translator to join as a co-founder of our novelty/necessity program, specializing in translating and promoting novel ideas for the Japanese market.  This unique role combines your exceptional English-Japanese translation skills with program management to connect Novel Ideas/Innovation with Avant Garde Market and forward-thinking Japanese executives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Translation (Written & Oral):

    • Translate complex documents related to novel technologies and business concepts from American English to clear and concise Japanese, maintaining the original meaning and intent.

    • Deeply understand the “whys” avant garde people in given culture(s) need from novel technologies and business concepts,

    • Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation during meetings, presentations, and conferences between US innovators and Japanese executives.

    • Ensure accurate and culturally sensitive communication throughout the entire program.

  • Outbound Program Management:

    • Research and identify avant garde individuals [consumers and/or business decision makers] who need cutting-edge ideas and interests relevant to the Moonshot R&D pathways of Japanese trading companies.

    • Develop and manage an outbound program to connect these avant garde consumers and those who have the potential to create novelty and with potential Japanese partners who can see the potential with their relationships.

    • Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and communication for all program activities.

    • Assist in building and fostering relationships between consumers, innovators and Japanese sponsors.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

    • Stay up-to-date on trends in both business models, deep tech innovation [software, hardware, quantum, biotech and material/chemical] and Japanese business dynamics.

    • Conduct research and prepare briefing materials for program participants.

    • Represent the company professionally during interactions with program participants and stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:
Native or near-native fluency in both American English and Japanese.

  • Excellent written and oral translation skills with a proven ability to convey complex information accurately and culturally appropriately.

  • Experience translating technical documents, marketing materials, or similar content is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of American and Japanese business cultures and etiquette.

  • Experience in program management or event coordination is preferred.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Passion for innovation and a strong desire to connect people and ideas across cultures.

 

Target Audience:

This role is specifically focused on translating for and connecting with board members and executives of Japanese trading companies.  Understanding their interests and communication style will be crucial for success.
